If you've never worked with a coach before, there are so many reasons why working with a coach can elevate your running. If you need a push, a coach is a motivator. If you're type A and run yourself into the ground, a coach is a voice of reason to keep you from over-doing things with your training.
Amongst the many reasons to work with a coach, we believe:
My training philosophy has been formed from 20+ years of my own competitive experiences, as well as 9 years of coaching experience at the High School and NCAA Division I Collegiate levels. I believe firmly in the product of hard work and realize the results that can come from working too hard. While coaching at Fairfield Union High School in Lancaster, OH, I had the pleasure of coaching 4 high school individual state titles (Rob Myers - Cross Country state champ, 1600 meter state champ, and 800 meter state champ, & Chris Millisor - 1600 meter state champ), and one high school national title in the 800 meters (Rob Myers). After leaving Fairfield Union, I was the assistant cross country and track coach at The Ohio State University where I was lucky to work with All-Big Ten athletes and NCAA Regional qualifiers from 800 meters to 5,000 meters. I have also worked with my brother Rob Myers during the final couple years of his professional running career for Saucony. Rob competed as a miler with a personal best of 3:53 in the mile and a 3:34 in the 1500 meter, and was a three-time indoor national champion in the 1500 meter, and two-time World Championship team member in the 1500 meter.
As a competitor, I attended Otterbein College, where I was a co-captain of the cross country team from 1993-95. I also qualified for the national cross country meet in 1994 and 1995, was a conference champion in the 10,000-meter run in 1996, and the All-Ohio 10,000 meter champion in 1994. After college, I competed in local and national area road races, and qualified for the 2017 Boston Marathon. My personal bests are: 10K - 31:18, 5k - 15:10, Marathon - 2:47.
