Marathons are hard. 26.2 miles of testing one’s limits, whether fast or slow or somewhere in between, takes a toll on the body. Imagine breaking it up into 5K’s at a time with roughly 50 minutes of rest. Well, that’s exactly what three runners did in Columbus on Saturday, December 1. Sam, Jackie, and I started at 6:30 am to run a TRIPLE treadmill marathon at ourColumbus Running Company, Dublin location. This was our kickoff fundraiser for the2019 Run Across Haiti. After just about 11.5 hours of rotating on a single treadmill, we completed 78.6 miles, three full marathons.
This February will mark my third trip across the island withWork and the Run Across Haiti. I have had many people ask me if it is easier or harder knowing exactly what I am getting myself into, and the answer I tend to give is simply “Yes!”
JALYN DEVEREAUX JUST FINISHED HER TRACK & CROSS COUNTRY CAREER AT OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY. THERE, SHE RAN MOSTLY MIDDLE DISTANCE RACES, SPENT HER SUMMERS AS A COUNSELOR AT THE MYERS RUNNING CAMP, AND PROBABLY NEVER CONSIDERED WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO LITERALLY RUN ACROSS A COUNTRY. THIS WINTER, ALL THAT CHANGED. AS PART OF THE ORGANIZATION KNOWN AS WORK, SHE TOOK PART IN THE FUNDRAISING RACE RUN ACROSS HAITI. HERE, JAYLN SHARES HER EXPERIENCE WITH US.
The Columbus Running Company’s charity training group, Love2Reach, was founded in 2013 as a way to give back to the Columbus area through fundraising and racing. As it continues to grow each season, Love2Reach (or L2R) continues to welcome new athletes and coaches to its roster.
