I've always been a DIY person and I naively thought that running was one of the things I could just learn to do by myself. I downloaded the apps, followed the blogs, read the books but it just didn't connect with me on personal level, so I would quit. I would get the itch to start up again but I would get pain in my shins or I'd lose hope and would quit all over again.
I had a kismet moment in traffic on State St. and saw the Columbus Running Company. I googled it and saw that they were having a beginner course and thought, "This is IT." I somehow persuaded my coworker to take the class with me, and it was the best decision I've made in 2018.
I know not everyone is lucky enough to have a buddy do it with them, but I gained 15+ running friends that I could lean on for support through this course. Coach Lisa pushed and motivated us all throughout our group runs and throughout the week with our weekly emails. Lastly, I got fitted for some awesome shoes for my overpronated feet. The right shoes took away my shin splints and allowed me to enjoy longer distances.
I finally learned how to run and I owe it all to the Columbus Running Company for giving me a solid foundation and for teaching me that running could be a fulfilling solo activity, but also that there's nothing quite like running and reaching your goals with your friends!
