New Shoe Review: GEL-Nimbus 19 from Asics

ASICS Footwear Launch

Plush. P-L-U-S-H. That is the Asics GEL-Nimbus summed up into one word. The Nimbus has been popular with runners since its debut, and the Nimbus 19 will likely continue to please its current fan base while picking up more new fans along the way. Why? Because the latest version features premium technology to tie together the complete plush package.

The Details

The upper is made from Asics' FluidFit, which is a multi-directional stretch mesh that holds your foot comfortably in place. It is coupled with FluidRide to give you a great bounce underneath your foot with the added benefits of reduced weight and increased durability.

One of the key features of the Nimbus line that continues in the 19th version is the dual GEL cushion inserts. Landing on your heel and forefoot is soft and springy.

The biggest upgrade to the Nimbus 19 is the addition of FlyteFoam, a new cushion system for Asics. FlyteFoam is 55% lighter than previous foams due to the “super fibers” that offer adaptive cushioning from start to finish.

The Feel

The heel collar is highly cushioned yet fitted enough to feel secure as you lace up the shoe. Similarly, the shoe's tongue is equally cushioned and securely wraps across the foot to make sure you don’t slide around.

People don’t always think about are the laces in the shoe, but the engineers at Asics definitely gave this feature some thought. Lacing the Nimbus 19 up for your run is smooth and comfortable, just like running in the shoe.

The Run

All right, let’s get to moving around. The entire profile of the shoe is noticeably lighter than previous models. FlyteFoam's ability to cushion while cutting weight is the real deal. As you land towards the back of the shoe, the heel insert of GEL cushions and absorbs shock before propelling your stride forward. As you push off from the forefoot, you'll notice that second round of GEL cushion. This shoe is soft all the way through your step.

So if you’re looking for a soft and durable ride for your upcoming training, then feel free to walk in the door at your local CRC and yell the word “PLUSH!” and we’ll help you out. You can also get this fantastic shoe delivered or mailed to you via our online store, available in Indigo Blue/Safety Yellow (men's) and Carbon/White/Flash Coral (women's).
