New Shoe Review: Clayton 2 from HOKA ONE ONE

Footwear Launch Hoka One One

The HOKA ONE ONE Clayton 2 is the updated version of the lightweight, fast-feeling original Clayton. Ready to learn more? Then let's get right into it!

Tech

The Clayton 2 features a few signature HOKA technologies to make this shoe as durable as possible without holding you back. The Clayton 2 continues to make use of a full RMAT rubber outsole and Meta Rocker midsole. This means the shoe runs like a HOKA with a distinctive roll in the stride to help cushion you and get you to that next step.
The updated Clayton 2 improves on the upper where some runners might have experienced hotspots or blisters near the arch. A change in overlay material and pattern was targeted to eliminate risk of rubbing in these areas. The Clayton 2 remains a 4mm drop shoe.

Fit and Feel

The new upper feels like a premium upgrade in this version of the Clayton. The toebox is wide while still feeling secure. The cushion is soft upon landing, yet firm upon push-off to help propel you forward. If you need light stability, the Clayton 2 has a slightly wider base as well as a slight heel cup to give you a bit of support on initial landing as well as through the end of your stride.

Similar Shoes

If you want to compare the Clayton 2 to other options, the easiest would be the HOKA Clifton. Other shoes from different brands would be those in the lightweight support category, such as: adidas Tempo Boost, Brooks Asteria, and Saucony Fastwitch.

Wrapping Up

If you're looking for a lightweight road shoe with cushion and need a touch of support, the Clayton 2 is one you should consider. It makes for a perfect multi-use shoe that can handle anything from track workouts to the long run, as well as letting you cruise along to that sweet new 5K PR.
