Walk & Run 101 is a great way for beginning walkers and runners to train for a 5K with group support and a coach who’s focused on helping every step of the way. People training at our Short North store will work with Jessica as they prepare for the Choo Choo 9 Miler & 5K in April.
Jessica, who currently trains with the Columbus Running Company’s Love2Reach charity training program, has run with groups from three of CRC’s four stores. She has also joined some of the speed work groups, so she’s familiar with several different aspects of the CRC community. However, like many people, her running journey started as a solo effort.
“I began running by myself in my basement on a treadmill as a way to get healthy and lose a few pounds, but I had no support or guidance,” she explains. “It wasn't until I began running with a group that I realized how fun running could be.”
Now Jessica is no stranger to running, particularly on the racing side.
“My first event was in 2011. Since then, I have completed over 20 half marathons and three full marathons,” she says. On top of all of that, Jessica also completed a half Ironman last summer.
Even after running that many races, Jessica still thinks “every race is amazing in its own way. I have so many favorites! But my biggest running accomplishment was completing my first full marathon.”
And while setting new distance records and improving on previous times are great accomplishments, Jessica knows that running can provide a much bigger sense of satisfaction in everyday life.
“Running has impacted my life in so many positive ways physically and emotionally. I want to be a part of helping others see the benefits of embracing a healthy lifestyle through walking and running and accomplishing their goals.”
Lisa, Walk & Run 101’s director, says, “Jessica has a big heart and really doesn't know the word ‘no’ when it comes to supporting her community. She is very passionate about the causes that she champions and is not afraid to push herself in her abilities as an athlete. She also loves to encourage others with her warm smile and quick wit. Those who have the opportunity to learn from Jessica through Walk & Run 101 will be both informed and entertained!”
