Voice of America Park
8070 Tylersville Road
West Chester, Ohio 45069
The park is a 330 acre park just outside of
Cincinnati in West Chester, OH. In recent years the park has
hosted NCAA Division III regional and national championships, as
well as numerous local high school and collegiate meets. In
order to meet USATF guidelines, the course design will be
different than other meets held at the park in the past.
Course
description:
Voice of America
Park will serve as the host venue for the 2007 USATF
Club XC Championships. The VOA course consists of two
loops for the women’s 6k and three loops for the men’s
10k. Predominantly flat, the course crosses a narrow
roadway twice on each loop. There is a slight hill on
the far eastern corner of the park that runners will
ascend for the first time as they near the mile and a
half mark. The finish line is also situated atop a
slight rise in the field.
The terrain of VOA Park, while flat, is not that of a
manicured golf course. VOA Park consists of rolled
prairie trails and open sports fields, and the course
traverses both trail and field alike. After the runners
leave their starting boxes, they will run a long
northern loop of the course, bringing them back south to
pass the mile marker near the starting area. From
there, runners will head east, cresting the slight hill
that leads to the southeastern corner of the park. A
long straightaway along the southern edge of the park
brings runners to a curve through a small woods and to
the two mile marker. Be on the lookout for hay bales
along this stretch of the course. Curving back to the
north, runners then pass the starting line to repeat the
loop before making their final run into the finish. For
the finish, runners will ascend a slight hill to a
finish line located in the south central portion of the
course, immediately to the south of the starting line.
The terrain is entirely grass and relatively
flat. Minor obstacles such as hay bales will be present in the
open races. In the event of an unusual amount of rain, it will
be extremely muddy. December in Ohio means the temperature will
be in the 60's one day, and 15 the next. Pack accordingly.
