Winter '06-'07
Jim
and Neal fandangle over the streets of Indy in a strong field
Whoa nelly it was a showdown everyone had their eyes on
but nobody would speak of until the outcome. Five miles of fun.
In one corner was Jim, who had spent February doing four hard
workouts a week to quickly get into racing shape. He calls the
program Jimonspa, which combines the words Jim, demon, and the
popular weight loss pill trim-spa. In the other corner was Neal,
who is a little more 'normal', and has yet to lose in a CRC
jersey. Add in some spice with a fast field of runners and all
of a sudden everybody is sweating. As expected, our runners
performed admirably and represented CRC well, posting fine
times. Jim crossed the line in 5th behind his old chum Kyle
Baker, clocking 23:55. A meander up the road was Neal, finishing
second in 23:30. Both smoking times, especially for February. A
rematch has yet to be scheduled, but we promise to keep you up
to date. Remember it took Jim over a year to beat Josh. |

Neal, Sawicki make '07 indoor debuts
They were 200 miles apart, Mike at Capital here in
Columbus, and Neal at DePauw in Indiana. It was Sawicki's first
race in some time, and his 9:07 showing the 3k is a sign that
things are going in the right direction. Meanwhile, Neal got a
glimpse of some competition in his first track race since
college. He easily pulled away in front of an audience that even
included his mother, who made a special trip out. His finishing
time was 14:53, enough to top the CRC indoor 5k record board and
raise some eyebrows back in the shop. After their races, each
walked outside from the track meets and gazed up into the sky at
the same star. Then it was like they were together in their CRC
universe. |
Rowe heads to the Rockies for USA XC
Championships
Aaron, perhaps the most well traveled runner ever to
spirit the CRC jersey, flew out to Colorado to melee with the
best in the country at the USATF National championships. The 12k
at altitude is no easy task. The blonde bigness finished 57th of
141 runners, and even made an appearance on ESPN. Please write
to ESPN and encourage them to televise more running and less
bass fishing. Aaron's commented on the day, "The Jonesy surprise
ate me up and spit me out on the forth lap, and all the people I
had passed on the forth lap blew right by me." |

CRC stays hot racing on the indoor circuit
Tight turns only make things more interesting. Four CRC
members took to the track at the Otterbein Invitational. Eric
Hamner and Matt DeLeon led the pack early in the 5k, with Nate Ritz biding
his time. Hamner, also coaching collegiate athletes at the meet,
pulled away with Nate just keeping pace. At the
line Hamner
crossed with an impressive 15:04, Ritz 15:24, and Matt 15:33.
Aaron Rowe, running in trainers to stay healthy, rolled to a
nice 4:21 mile. Two weeks later Matt again found himself on the
little oval, only this time at his alma-mater DePauw. Just
before his 5k, he watched his wife compete successfully for the
first time on the track in 5 years, a 5k in 19:42. His wife
then watched him roll to a 15:22 to show he can still hang with
the young guys. The picture to your left does not get old. |
CRC runs first team XC event at Cincy 8k,
sandwiches the field for the win.
January 13- Five CRC heroes toed the line in the mud pit
of a park that held the Cincinnati 8k. The race was a contest
open to club teams such as CRC. CRC gives props to Fleet Feet
Louisville/Brooks, The Earth Drummers, and Meters and Miles- all
had the gonads to show. In the end the slop-fest saw CRC place
four men in the top 6, with Matt and Nate leading the way in 2nd
and 3rd. Jim, running in purple spikes made last century, was
just nipped at the end by Rowe to finish 6th. CRC hero Steve
Wolf battled things out in the back to complete the scoring. The
victory celebration featured a gathering including the race
director, individual winner Chris Reis and his lady friend
Shackin' McCracken, and a giant peach pie. We'll be back next
year... |

Neal strides his way to fast a last mile to
win in New Years Day 5k.
On loan from Arizona State, CRC employee Ben Engelhardt
rolled to a second place finish in front of his girlfriend. The
two led from the gun, hitting the two mile around 10:05. Neal
took over from there, negative splitting the last 1.1 miles to
finish in 15:27. Ben finished up cracking 16 with a 15:55.
During cool down the two got into a fist fight over who has
better training, the East coast or West coast. West coast
won. But East coast won the race. |
CRC Mizuno Store Team announced as host of
2007 USATF XC National Championships!
The event happens each year in early December and pits
the best clubs, like CRC Mizuno, against one another in a much
anticipated showdown. The actual course will be down I-71, just
northeast of Cincinnati. The CRC Mizuno store team has hosted
their first xc meet earlier in the year, and plan on putting
their best foot forward for this big event. Stay tuned to the
website for more info! |

Matt continues his comeback with a xc win
over the river and through the woods...
Matt says the first annual Run-A-Muck hosted by OWU was
so much fun that it had to be included here. A course that
features hay bales, log jumps, stream crossings, and people
who's primary job was just to make mud pits is hands down a good
race. With new found sidekick Abebe watching, Matt took 1st over
the 5k course in 16:17. |
Aaron Rowe loans himself to Team Good River
and heads across the country to San Fran for the club XC
championships.
The CRC Mizuno store team was too cheap to field a team
on the west coast. Luckily Rowe got his fix with some people he
knows and was able to run on a solid team. Aaron finished 87th
of 330, and the TGR team placed 5th overall in an impressive
debut. Feeling left out and jealous of Aaron, the CRC Mizuno
store team vowed they would make it to next years event on an
affordable budget. Those crazy CRCer's decided to host the thing
to be sure it was closer to home. |

Neal Holtschulte debuts for CRC with a
blowout over Jim and Matt in the Flying Feather.
If you call the store and pronounce his last name
correctly you win a free pair of shoe laces. Jim and Matt showed
up on a perfect weathered Turkey day talking trash. Neal showed
up a little confused. The winding course proved fast the first
mile, with the first four runners gapping the field and hitting
the first mile in 4:43. Matt and the fourth fellow fell back a
bit huffing and puffing as Jim and Neal pulled away. Just before
the halfway point Neal was able to gap Jim on the twisty course
by 15 meters. "Neal was pulling him along like rag on a string,"
said Matt of the spectacle. "Must have been fun to watch from 40
seconds behind," responded Jim. Nothing is really fun for Matt
after a 4:43 mile. The trio went 1-2-3 in 19:30, 19:54, and
20:30, respectively. |
CRC rolls to some low places and picks up
some cash in the Trot 4 Tots 10k.
It's the finest 10k course in central Ohio, as far as
were concerned. Rowe led the men's pack through Dublin in 31:20,
easily out distancing teammate Josh Ordway in the early stages.
Stacey Ritz showed poise amongst strong competition, finishing
third in just over 38 minutes. Both earned some cash for there
efforts, and Rowe received a bonus six pack from race director
Raymond. He's crazy. They both are. |
