CRC decides to represent at a local 5k, serving as USATF
Ohio 5k Champs
Old Truck Bess took some CRC diehards over to Powell to
catch some action in the Powell 5k, serving as the USATF 5k
championship, which means the winner gets a stipend to help
him/her get to the national championship. Ordway raced up front,
dueling it out with Eric Putnam for 4,995 meters. Unfortunately
the last 5 meters were a bit tough on Josh as he fell just short
of victory, but finishing in a great 15:07 on a tough day. As
Josh crossed the finish line, it was the CRC train that took
over. CRC employee Ben Engelhardt rolled into a 3rd place
finish, followed by Nate Ritz and then Matt DeLeon. Choo Choo. |

Jim gets dizzy running fast at the Ogden 20k
It's hot. It's hilly. It's everything Jim always wanted
in a 20k down in West Virginia. Racing a stacked field,
Jurcevich ran a strong 1:05:57 over the 12.4 mile course. The
effort was good enough to spot him 5th, 2nd American. "I nearly
relived Grandma's," said Jim, referring to the sun-baked
marathon Jim and Josh did in 2006. The real delight of the trip
was when his wife made him drive to Pittsburg to visit the
nearest Ikea. Not to be outdone, he managed to get back to
Columbus in time for some Crew tailgating. What a day. Take a
couple days off, Jim. |
Sawicki laces up the flats, winning Tallmadge 5k in
15:31
In his first race since relocating, Mike pulled in an
impressive time and win at another Memorial weekend 5k. It's
good prep for the upcoming Columbus 10k, and will undoubtedly
shed some light on his draft status for the CRC challenge- an
inter-squad battle between team CRC. Whose team will prevail-
Dan the Man's or CRC employee Bradley BBalls Newsad? More
details to come later.... |

Eric Hamner squeezes himself onto the CRC record board
with a fast 5k tune - up
Hambone is hungry, folks. He's hungry for the Grandma's
Marathon this June, but that doesn't mean he won't snack
beforehand. Down at the fast memorial 5k in Lancaster, he blazed
to a 14:41, not far behind winner Eric Putnam. The time nudged
Jim off the record board until he can ante up. Things look good
Hamner as he prepares for another shot at the Olympic Trials
Qualifier over father's day weekend. |
CRC sisters run the daunting Filthy Farm and live to
tell about it
At the start of the race, race timer Eric Fruth was
really the only one who knew what the upcoming 5k course was to
hold for it's participants. Being organic may sound wussy, but
there was nothing of the such on this organic farm 5k. Kelley
asked Eric, "I ran a 18:43 5k the other day, what do you think
I'll run here?" Eric looked at her and smiled, "you won't break
21." Sure enough, the CRC sisters finished 1-2 in the event, but
somewhere in the 22 minute range. A lesson learned here -
numbers are but a irrational assignment of something onto
nothing. |

Store Team CRC's newest member can't resist
showing off her singlet
Riding off her winter marathon training, Kelley put in a
streak of strong races over consecutive races this spring. At
the Fisher's 5k, with her husband watching, she put in PR of
18:43! She then braved the crowds at the Race for the Cure,
running 18:50ish, we don't know for sure since they don't take
results. In the UA 5 Miler she placed 2nd with a time of 31:59.
The rookie knows how to represent. |

Ordway and Hamner represent well at the Cleveland 10k - the race
where everyone went different ways
It's always a good field at this annual event tied to the
marathon; Josh and Eric were looking forward to seeing what they
could do. Josh was running strong, and then he kept running, and
running, and running some more. 10k came and went. Not far
behind, Hamner was running somewhere else. Nobody knows really
how far Josh or Eric ran, nobody knows really how far anyone
ran. All we know is that people ran, and ran hard. For the
record, Josh finished second Ohioan. |
Canvassing the pavement of Central Ohio -
Blue Team Update!
CRC blue team has been out in force and representing
well. For the ladies, Jamie made her post Boston debut with a
2nd place finish at the Filthy Farm. Greg McGill pulled a double
- finishing the Blendon Woods 5k in the morning, then running
the Christine Wilson in a very impressive 19:15 later that
evening. Brent Stark put in strong finishes at Blendon Woods, an
18:22 at the Memorial 5k in Hilliard, and cleaned up at the
Genoa trail festival 5 miler, winning the thing by over 7
minutes. At the same trail festival, Chris returned to racing
with a win and an 18:40 5k. |

Ordway smells cash, comes back to
Columbus for a race
Josh Ordway's face was planted in a book about
facial bone structure over at Wright State when the wind
shifted and he got a whiff of Columbus. He was fresh on
a scent of a race with some prize money. He immediately
picked up the phone and notified Jim of his intentions.
In order to get money Josh would have to be winning at
mile 2 and the finish. Nothing stops an Ordway on the
scent trail of cold cash, and a growling, scowling Josh
was able to secure a 3 minute lead and hold it until the
finish of the four miler. Blue teamer Brent Stark was
representing as well, finishing 6th, with a much nicer
look on his face. |
Neal chases his first sub 30 at the coveted Penn Relays;
Rowe heads up to a loaded 10k at Hillsdale.
We haven't got the full updates yet, but CRC was
represented in a couple big meets this weekend. First
was Neal, running in the Olympic Development 10k at the
famous Penn Relays. Feeling it was time for a new PR in
the 10k,
he hung with the leaders into mid-race. Ironically, the field
included another DIII XC Champion in Macharia Yuot. Neal was
able to finish well, but just missed his goal with a
30:26.33. His write up is here. Meanwhile, Aaron
Rowe was up in Michigan for a stacked Hillsdale 10k
under the lights. He too was looking at a sub-thirty
effort, but things weren't there and he finished up in
32:25. You can't have them all, but look for these guys to hit their marks soon... |

CRC Blue team hits the spring running well
The blue team for the CRC isn't waiting for the warm
weather to see results from their winter training. Besides the
results listed below, Aaron Kramer rolled to a 2nd place finish
at the Here's Looking at You, Kid 5k in 18:04. At the Chase 4ish
Miler, Brent Stark finished a strong 6th in 23:45. Greg McGill
took 2nd two consecutive weekends, once at Out Run Autism and
then again at the OWU Presidents run, turning in a 19:14,
approaching his '07 goal of going sub-19. |
CRC stays the course in Boston with two team
finishes. Matt DeLeon, Eric Hamner lead with 2:34's
The CRC was 'fortunate' enough to hit up the East coast
for what will be one of the more memorable Boston Marathons. The
CRC took an entourage of store teamers, employees, and friends
out to the famed marathon, looking to put a taste of Cbus in the
chowder.
Check out this 2 minute news clip from race day if you don't
believe our ability to create a scene. In the men's race,
Hamner followed the leaders and opened up a 69 minute half
marathon before shutting things down. Matt, determined to break
2:30, held pace for quite a while before giving in to the
elements and finishing up with Hamner in 2:34. Meanwhile Nate
Ritz, fresh off a marriage and honeymoon, ran conservatively to
a 2:57. The CRC men finished 5th of 69 teams. Meanwhile, the
trio of new CRC blue and red team members Kelley Newsad, Jamie
Sims, and Rachael DeLeon ran strong for the CRC. Kelley led the
way with a 3:23, and Jaime and Rachael gutted the end out
together in 3:28. The CRC |
Jim and Josh lead the way for the CRC at
the Columbus Distance Classic
The rain held off for showdown up front, at the
Kenyan Penguin Daniel Cheruiyot, Hanson's Clint Verran
and Kyle O'Brien, and CRC's Jim Jurcevich and Josh
Ordway held the pack together early. In the end it was
Clint and Daniel in a photo finish, with Jim not far
behind coming in at his half marathon PR in a CRC jersey
(1:07:12). Ordway out distanced the second Hanson in the
last mile, finishing in 1:07:44. Meanwhile, McGill and
Stark ran strong for the blue team with 1:32:15 and
1:33:14 finishes, respectively. Then it rained. |

Neal Holtschulte submerges himself in pain but gargles
out a 14:34 5k in Chicago
We'll get a new picture of this guy when he runs
a race in state. In the meantime, we'll let him continue
to tear it up across the midwest. Neal headed up to
Chicago for the The Race That's Good For You, 5k for a
tune-up before Penn Relays. What he ended up with was a
heart-thumping duel to the line. His recap can be found
here. We'll leave you an excerpt: "I knew I was going to
puke, knew I'd feel better if I did, but my stomach had
to torture me first." |

Eric Hamner smashes his PR in a Boston Marathon tune-up
5k on the track
Hambone is looking strong on his Boston build-up,
winning his 5k heat and clocking a 14:44 PR down at Duke
University. We found some sweet pictures at
www.prettysporty.com, but you have to buy them.
Otherwise you get little pictures like the one to the
left. This is Eric kicking it in, looking ripped ladies. |
