April 2009 Tat of the Month

Sera Buyny -  Smoker turned runner from New Kensington, PA

We at the Columbus Running Company know the importance of running shoes. Many people come into the store and can tell us the first pair of running shoes they bought in 1986.  It's kind of like your first car, or your first kiss. Sera now carries those shoes with her forever - as a reminder of her running and a reminder of her commitment to quitting smoking!  Below is what Sera sent us with her submission.

"I decided to get something special after my first Half Marathon.  I wanted something a little different from the winged shoes and running stick figures or silhouettes.  I finally had the bright idea to dip my first pair of running shoes in ink and stamp their tread on paper.  Then I added the wing and took it to my tattoo artist at True Image in New Kensington, PA.  Now every time I put on my running shoes I am reminded of exactly why I quit smoking and started running.  It's been a great source of motivation towards completing my first ultra this summer!"
