In between getting in some great fall weather runs and gorging
on candy corn, we here at the CRC have put together a few events
for our fellow walkers and runners in the central Ohio area.
Throughout this, our autumn newsletter, you’ll find info on
runs, clinics, training groups, and plenty more. |
|
First, we’re going to get
things revved up this autumn with the CRC’s inaugural Prediction
Run. Full info is presented later in this newsletter, but be
ready for food, fun, and Fila as you try to predict your time in
a bid to win some free shoes! The annual Trot for Tots 3k / 10k
isn’t too far off either—start marking your calendars for all
your holiday-time favorites. This year, there’s a new event in
town, too. Our friends at John Bingham Racing are putting on a
4 mile race on Thanksgiving morning. The Flying Feather Four
Miler will be held in Dublin...and did we mention that all
finishers will be receiving a free bottle of wine?! Now we’re
talking!
Congrats to all those fall marathoners, cross country runners, and
everyone else who pushed themselves towards a big goal in 2006.
The fall has always been a runner’s and walker’s dream—cool
weather and beautiful scenery combine to make this a great time
of year to be active outdoors. Enjoy it while the season is
here!

Join us on Wednesday, October 25th at 6pm
at the CRC’s Dublin shop for our first-ever Prediction Run. We
are going to mark a loop 5 miles long, starting from the store.
Before everyone starts, you're going to predict how long it’s
going to take you to finish that 5 miles. You can go as fast or
as slow as you like. However, your watch, Garmin, or anything
else you measure time with stays at the CRC. The person who
finishes the closest to their predicted time is crowned the
champion forever! Or until we do it again. This isn’t a race
for the fastest - this is a test of how well you know yourself
as a runner or walker. |
 |
|
Registration
No pre-registration is required, but if you let us know you’re
coming by emailing us at info@columbusrunning.com, we’d like
that. Cost is $3.00 per person, OR if you bring a side dish or
snack for after the run for people to eat you get in free.
Awards
Thanks to Fila, awards go 10 deep. The top 3 winners, those
closest to their predicted times, receive a free pair of shoes
from Fila. Other winners receive good stuff from Fila and the
CRC. At the CRC, though, everyone is a winner. Free food and
adult beverages on tap for all participants. Water and Gatorade
for those under 21. Hooray! You can add to the festivities by
bringing a side dish to add to the mix - remember, registration
is FREE if you bring something to share with everyone after the
run!
Course
We're not telling. You likely won't know until you get to the
start line. Start and finish will be at the CRC. We'll be
using the Dublin bike paths. The course will be 5 miles.
That’s all you know - let’s see how well you can predict your
time for the distance!

Ever think about completing
a half or full marathon? Looking for others to run or
walk with? Want an excuse to wear all those cool
looking running outfits? We’ve got the answer for
you... Train with the CRC this winter!
The CRC Training Group is a training plan geared
around both the individual and the group. Rather than
giving every participant the same generic training plan,
we tailor plans for each individual within the group,
based on your
personal goals, abilities, and aerobic history. At the
same time, we offer group runs, from long runs to speed
work, so that you can enjoy the miles, get to meet many
new friends, and share the experience. Nervous? Don’t
worry - everyone
is. The group atmosphere will help pull you along,
making each run a celebration of how far you’ve come.

The CRC Training Group
will hold two kick-off parties this winter - Wed. Jan
10th in our Dublin shop & Thurs. Jan 11th in our
Pickerington shop. At these events, we’ll answer
questions, introduce the coaches, and enjoy some snacks
CRC style - we’re all about having a good time as we
prepare for 13.1 or 26.2. Mark your calendars for the
kick-off parties - more info will be available in the
next CRC newsletter! Once the groups begin, runs will
be held in both Dublin and Pickerington each week.
Bring a mug if you’d like to join us for coffee in the
store afterwards!
If you’d like to receive an informational email
detailing the group, send an email to us at info@columbusrunning.com
and we’ll forward everything along to you as soon as the
details are set in stone. We’re looking forward to
another great training group! |

In the dark days ahead this winter,
play it safe on your runs. Remember, cars won’t always see you,
so keep to the trails and sidewalks as much as you can.
Reflective leg bands, blinking lights, and safety vests
significantly increase your visibility and your safety on those
dark runs and walks.
With this in mind, the CRC is carrying the full line of Brooks’ acclaimed
Night Life apparel this winter. In addition to the leg bands,
lights, and vests, we’ve added long sleeve technical shirts,
tights, and pullovers with increased reflectivity. Come check
it out anytime! |

The Flying Feather Four
Miler
November 23, 2006
There’s a new holiday
tradition blooming in central Ohio! The Flying Feather
Four Miler, a new Thanksgiving Day road race, is sure to
be a hit. Put on by our friends at John Bingham Racing,
the same folks who bring us the Columbus Distance
Classic in downtown CBus every April, the Four Miler
loops through Glacier Ridge Metro Park and the new
Corazon Club and Spa at Tartan West in Dublin.
This is a FAMILY event like no other - there’s a kid’s run
beforehand, with free cookies for all finishers. Then,
after the 9am running of the four miler, all adult
finishers receive a free bottle of wine to enjoy later
at your Thanksgiving dinner. All registrants receive a
long sleeve technical running shirt, gloves, gift
certificates, and the usual “Big Honkin’ Penguin Medal”
that all JBR events are known for.
We’ll see you out on the course on
Thanksgiving morning! For full info, and to register, go
online to:

Lace up those shoes and
come join us for a run! As always, the CRC is offering
free group runs, a chance for you to come meet fellow
runners and to put some miles in together. Runners of
all abilities are welcome! Run as far or as fast as you
like, we’ll have the store open for you afterwards with
water, coffee, and the occasional snack.
Saturdays at 8am
- This is our main group run, and the Sat run goes on
year-round, regardless of weather. Saturdays are all
about putting some extra miles in to kick the weekend
off.
Mondays at 8pm -
This is a smaller run, for those quicker runners looking
to get some quality miles in with other competitive
runners. The coming winter nights make this one tough,
but it’s all part of the Trials of Miles, right?
Speedwork - Our
Wednesday afternoon track workouts have gone into
hibernation. The speed work sessions will come back out
in the spring, so don’t be waiting for us at the track
in the cold! |

Tentative dates for some
2007 CRC events…
Jan 20 - The Fantastic
Frigid 5k #1 - The stuff of legends. The two
race 5k series, held at a park just north of the
Dublin shop, isn’t for the feint of heart or
anybody without a warm hat and gloves. Think
you can brave the distance in the chill of
winter?
Jan 28 - The Columbus
Winter Run - The CRC is lending a hand as the
Columbus Road Runners club hosts their annual
Winter Run 15 miler and 3 miler in
Pickerington.
Feb 3 - The Fantastic
Frigid 5k #2 - Once again, running about in the
frozen tundra north of Dublin. Run both races
in the series to get a special prize...and maybe
some frostbite…
See you at the races!

No, it’s not until April
22nd, but we don’t want you to miss this one.
The 3rd Annual “Here’s Looking at You, Kid” 5k,
a benefit for the Children’s Glaucoma Foundation
put on by the Dublin Teen Institute, is shaping
up already to be a classic. The expo is
growing. The kid’s races from last year are
back. The inflatable games are looking to be
even better. Oh, and amid all the circuslike
atmosphere, the race is always one of our
favorites. Unique in that the race is hosted by
a group of student race directors from Coffman
High School, the race had over 800 registrants
last year. What can we expect in 2007?
Can YOU run it?
