Chatting with Clinton Osborne, a sophomore on the Cardington Lincoln XC team.

PR’s
400m - :55
800m – 2:06
1600m – 4:40

CRC: When did you begin running?  And what drew you into the sport of cross country?
Clinton Osborne
: My seventh grade year I felt like trying something new.  I was good at track so I thought I would try cross country.

CRC: You and your brother have those strong track backgrounds from last year, especially in the shorter sprint distances - how has the transition to the 5k been going for you?
CO:
It didn’t really bother me.  Our track practice every day was like cross country practice in a way.

CRC: So what's been the hardest part of running XC for the first time?
CO:
Going from sprint workouts to distance running.

CRC: It’s definitely a switch, isn’t it?  Between sprinting and cross country, what would you say has been your greatest running memory so far?
CO: When I was MVP of the meet at Mt. Gilead and I broke the mile record by ten seconds and our school’s by fourteen.

CRC: That’s a great start to a young career.  Now, what are your goals for this season?  What are your long term running goals?
CO: T
o at least run under a 17 minute 5k.

CRC: What do you like about your team that makes you guys unique and different?
CO:
We are very young but we have great athletes.

CRC: What’s your favorite workout?
CO: L
ong slow distance or (LSD)

CRC: Where does your motivation to train and race hard come from?
CO:
I want to get faster for track so this is helping me do that.

CRC: Outside of running, what do you do with your free time?
CO:
Hang out with friends, ride dirt bikes, swim at the pool, and work.

Thanks to Clinton for the interview – and good luck to the Cardington Lincoln XC team this season!

Coaches/Parents - Do you have any standout athletes that go the extra mile?  Spotlight them at the Columbus Running Company!  During the season, we will periodically showcase athletes in our high school section within the store and on this webpage.  Nominations can be taken through our Contact Us page, through info@columbusrunning.com, or by simply giving us a call.  We will then briefly interview you and the selected athlete.

Nominations do not have to be the fastest athletes - nominate those who demonstrate qualities such as a strong work ethic or leadership skills or have something unique that sets them apart.

The sport of running is a great one.  We'd like to help glamorize it in the eyes of the youth who are the future of running.  These athletes deserve recognition!
